We were able to get an exclusive interview with San Diego's Josh Hall. We asked him to tell us about his “Perfect Day” in San Diego.
Bio:
Josh Hall is the golden (man) child of the San Diego longboard, retro-style surfboard shaping community. He is a true Pacific Beach native who grew up surfing Felspar street and hanging around the shaping room of legendary Skip Frye. Today he makes 100% hand shaped, custom build surfboards under the motto “one order, one blank, one custom at a time” which is increasingly rare in the days of surfboards being pumped out of shaping machines. Josh is the real deal and you only have to look at his beautiful boards to know this.
What is your morning ritual?
JH: Bulletproof coffee, then surf check
Best breakfast spot?
JH: If not drinking bulletproof coffee or it’s the weekend, Avocado toast with bacon and 2 packed eggs from the Little Lion Cafe.
Coffee?
JH: Don't do it cuz they all suck, except Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in La Jolla.
Favorite local adventure?
JH: I love the Anza-Borrego State Park for hiking, camping and 4x4 driving. My local surf spot is Sunset Cliffs, so if I’m not working you can find me there!
Best lunch spot?
JH: Hands down favorite has to be El Pescador in La Jolla. I always get the ceviche to start with a grilled halibut sandwich add avocado. My second choice is Ragland’s grass-fed burgers. Also, if you know me well, you’ve been to my secret spot Sab-e-lee in Linda Vista for papaya salad with Beef (blood) boat noodles and some fried pork ribs.
Favorite beach?
JH: My roots are in Pacific Beach. In my heyday, I was a bit of a Crystal Pier local.
All-time happy hour?
JH: Straight back from Crystal Pier is the best place I can think of for a sunset and a sundowner, Tower 23.
Best spot for dinner?
JH: Tadakoro secret spot for sushi in Old Town, Tajima for ramen.
After dinner drinks or party spot?
JH: Gotta love Kettner Exchange.
One place you always take out-of-towners?
JH: Cabrillo Monument in Point Loma, great view and maybe some hidden tide pools and rad hikes.
So, Josh, you've been known to sink a few cans while you shape, what's your favorite local beer?
JH: Haha, lucky for me I’ve got Home Brew Mart - Ballast Point brewing right up the street from my shop.

check out some board bags that would be great for any of josh's boards here!

I’m excited to have found WestPath! I ordered a cool, good quality yoga mat carrier from them. I was pleased by how quickly the item arrived and with the style and quality of the carrier. It has plenty of room inside to carry my yoga balls, and I love the phone pocket sewn onto the front. Besides the expedited delivery and fine quality of the product, Jeanene & Dustin threw in a free gift, a cute little cloth coin pouch and 15% coupon with my purchase. I’ll definitely recommend WestPath and order from them again. Good job, guys!
